What is the ‘Time For You’ respite care service?
Time For You is a free service that might mean a trained care support worker could come to your home so you could have time away from your caring responsibilities.

What exactly is respite care?
Respite care is the term used to describe the temporary, organised care of a sick, elderly or disabled person, providing relief for their usual carer.

Why is respite care important?
Having a break from caring, if only for a few hours, is vital for your wellbeing and can also benefit the person you care for, if it means that you are happier and more relaxed.

It is important for caregivers to realise that they deserve a break from their responsibilities to take care of themselves too!

When to use respite care
There are many instances in which you may choose to use the The Time For You service, such as:

Having a break:
Go to the cinema or theatre, meet up with friends for a meal, go for an outing or perhaps a few days away.

Look after your own health:
Keeping an appointment, for example, at the hospital or GP.

Spending time together:
Time For You could include the person you’re caring for, so you can get out together to enjoy a social event or leisure activity.

Help at home:
Help with the housework and other household tasks. Support with hobbies you like to do together.

How respite care works
We require a minimum of two working days notice to make arrangements for this service. Please note if the person you’re caring for receives funding from social care or the NHS for you to have a break for respite, we are unable to offer you the Time For You service.
